About

The Martin Marauder was an American twin-engined medium bomber, fast and modern but with a high wing loading that made it demanding to fly. Early accidents during training gave it a fearsome reputation — “the Widowmaker” and “one a day in Tampa Bay” — yet once crews mastered it the Marauder went on to record one of the lowest loss rates of any Allied bomber. In British and Commonwealth hands it flew almost entirely in the Mediterranean and Middle East with RAF and South African squadrons. More than 5,000 were built.
