About
The de Havilland Tiger Moth was the RAF’s standard elementary biplane trainer throughout the war and the aircraft on which a great many wartime aircrew — including most British and Commonwealth pilots — first learned to fly. Simple, forgiving but unforgiving enough to teach good airmanship, it was produced in huge numbers and used across the Empire Air Training Scheme. Tiger Moths also flew communications, glider-towing and coastal-patrol duties. Nearly 9,000 were built.
