About
The Harrow was a twin-engined monoplane that bridged the gap between the RAF’s biplane bombers and its modern monoplane force of the late 1930s, serving first as a heavy bomber and then, once obsolete in that role, as a transport. As a transport it carried freight and, in ambulance form known as the “Sparrow,” evacuated wounded after the invasion of Europe. The Harrow is also remembered for a curious experiment: a handful were used to drop the “Pandora” aerial mine, a long trailing cable intended to bring down enemy bombers, with which a Harrow claimed several night victories during the Blitz.
