RAF Newtownards
About
RAF Newtownards occupied a pre-war aerodrome in County Down, Northern Ireland, opened in 1934. During the Second World War it was used for army-cooperation and fighter-gunnery flying and as a relief landing ground and gliding school, No. 13 Squadron among the units based there. It survived the war as a civil aerodrome and remains active today, home to the Ulster Flying Club, with three runways still in use for light aircraft and helicopters.
