RAF Ouston
About
RAF Ouston opened in Northumberland in 1941 as a fighter sector station in No. 13 Group, guarding the industrial north-east. A succession of squadrons flew from it — among them the Polish No. 317 Squadron — on Hawker Hurricanes and Supermarine Spitfires, alongside army-cooperation and training units. Flying continued for many years after the war until the station passed to the Army in 1974; it is now Albemarle Barracks.
