About

RAF Renfrew lay on the Clyde near Glasgow on a site used for flying since before the First World War. In the Second World War it was chiefly an aircraft acceptance, repair and ferrying depot, with fighter squadrons also passing through. After the war it served as Glasgow’s main airport until that role moved to nearby Abbotsinch — today’s Glasgow Airport — in 1966. The old airfield was then demolished, and its site is now covered by the M8 motorway, a supermarket and housing.
