RAF Roborough
About
RAF Roborough was Plymouth’s airfield, on the northern edge of the city in Devon, and played a part in the air defence of the great naval base and dockyard during the war. Fighter aircraft, including the Gloster Gladiator biplanes of a fighter flight, operated from it in the early years, and it was also used by the Fleet Air Arm. After the war it returned to civil aviation as Plymouth City Airport, which served the city until its closure in 2011.
