RAF Sturgate
About
RAF Sturgate opened in Lincolnshire in 1944 and was used late in the war for blind-flying and heavy-bomber finishing training, with Avro Lancaster squadrons briefly based there in 1945. In the 1950s it was taken over by the United States Air Force, which flew jet fighters from it and used it to support Strategic Air Command deployments and the Thor missiles based nearby. A corner of the airfield survives today as a civil flying field.
