RAF Wellingore
About
RAF Wellingore was a grass airfield in Lincolnshire used as a relief landing ground and fighter satellite of nearby Digby. Through the war it was home to night-fighter and day-fighter squadrons — No. 29 Squadron flying Bristol Beaufighters, and Canadian, Polish and Belgian units flying Supermarine Spitfires and Hawker Hurricanes — as well as a flying-training school. The station closed in 1947, and the land has returned to farming.
