RAF West Freugh
About
RAF West Freugh, on the shore of Luce Bay in Wigtownshire, opened in 1937 as an armament-training station. Bombing and gunnery schools and observer and bomb-aimer training units flew from it during the war, and it became an important centre for weapons trials. Flying ended in 2001, but the site continues as a test range over Luce Bay, operated by QinetiQ.
