About

RAF Wittering, on the border of Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire, has been a flying station since 1916 and was a key fighter station in No. 12 Group during the Battle of Britain, defending the southern East Midlands. After the war it became a V-bomber base in the nuclear deterrent and then, from 1969, the home of the Harrier jump-jet for four decades. It remains an active RAF station today.
