Notes
A Canadian-built Lancaster X of No. 419 ‘Moose’ Squadron RCAF, flying from Middleton St George, KB726 was shot down by a night-fighter over France on the night of 12/13 June 1944 during a raid on Cambrai — the crew’s twelfth operation. As the blazing aircraft went down, mid-upper gunner Pilot Officer Andrew Mynarski fought through the flames in a vain attempt to free the trapped rear gunner, and was himself terribly burned; he died shortly after reaching the ground. He was awarded a posthumous Victoria Cross. The rear gunner survived the crash.
