AJ-A was flown by Squadron Leader Henry ‘Dinghy’ Young, Gibson’s deputy leader on the Dams Raid. His mine struck the Möhne dam and helped complete the breach. Heading home in the early daylight, his Lancaster was hit by flak as it crossed the Dutch coast and came down in the sea; all seven of the crew were killed.
