Lancaster W4232 (RC-Y) of No. 5 Lancaster Finishing School took off from RAF Syerston at 16:01 on 17 April 1944 for general flying training. About four minutes later, while still climbing, the aircraft stalled; the port mainplane and the tip of the starboard wing came away and it fell to the ground, killing all seven crew. Pilot Officer Bruce Humphreys RAAF rests in Oxford (Botley) Cemetery.
