No. 13 Group
Fighter Command
No. 13 Group of Fighter Command defended northern England and Scotland. Though far from the main battle, its squadrons inflicted heavy losses on a Luftwaffe raid from Norway on 15 August 1940 — a day that showed the folly of attacking the north — and the group served as a vital area in which tired squadrons could rest and re-form.
