No. 38 Group

Airborne Forces / Glider

No. 38 Group provided the air lift for Britain’s airborne forces. Its squadrons of converted bombers and transport aircraft towed Airspeed Horsa and General Aircraft Hamilcar gliders and dropped paratroops, carrying the airborne divisions into action on D-Day, at Arnhem and at the Rhine crossing, and also flew supply missions to resistance movements in occupied Europe.
