This officer has displayed rare powers of leadership and organising ability. As commander of the squadron he has played, a large part in raising it to its present high standard of operational efficiency. The squadron has been responsible for destroying or severely damaging many thousands of tons of enemy shipping. Wing Commander Styles has himself contributed materially to the splendid achievements, carrying out his attacks from low altitudes and in the face of intense anti-aircraft opposition.
