Biography
Hubert Reginald Goodman was a Wing Commander, service number 33252. CWGC records his death on 12 May 1944, aged 29, and his burial at Schoonselhof Cemetery. The local award trail records the AFC.
RAFweb’s Cranwell page and the South African War Graves Project give a strong biographical and loss account. Goodman entered RAF College Cranwell in 1934, represented the college in sport, and was commissioned in August 1936. The South African page records him as born in Maseru, Basutoland, in 1915, educated at Hilton College, Natal, and later serving in India, Iraq, Egypt and North Africa. It identifies his final unit as No. 103 Squadron and says Lancaster ND700, code PM-X, was hit by night-fighter cannon fire and exploded near Hallaar in Belgium during a raid on railway targets at Hasselt. It also names his wife Margaret Joyce Goodman and children. These records tie the same name to the same service number, award trail and casualty date, reducing the risk of confusing him with another airman of similar name.
