Stalag IV-D Torgau

Stalag IV-D was centred on Torgau on the Elbe in Saxony, the same town where American and Soviet troops would famously meet in April 1945. The camp administered a large number of prisoners through its work detachments across the region, drawn from many Allied nations including British and Commonwealth servicemen. Torgau was also the site of Wehrmacht military prisons, and conditions for those who fell foul of the camp authorities could be severe.
