No. 299 Squadron

No. 299 Squadron formed at Stoney Cross in November 1943 from C Flight of No. 297 Squadron. It trained first with Venturas and then converted to Stirlings for airborne forces work, including supply drops to resistance groups and glider-towing or parachute operations. The squadron took part in D-Day, Market Garden and the Rhine crossing, then flew transport duties including the Allied move into Oslo before disbanding in February 1946.
