de Havilland Dominie
Transport / glider tug · de Havilland · United Kingdom
The Dominie was the military version of de Havilland’s elegant twin-engined Dragon Rapide biplane airliner, taken into RAF service for two roles. As a radio and navigation trainer it carried pupils learning wireless operation and air navigation; as a communications aircraft it flew passengers, despatches and light freight between stations and headquarters. Reliable and economical, the Dominie served throughout the war and for some years afterwards, a graceful survivor of the biplane era doing useful work in the age of the four-engined bomber.
