Notes
A de Havilland Mosquito B.IX of No. 105 Squadron, LR503 — ‘F for Freddie’ — flew 213 operations between 1943 and 1945, more than any other Allied bomber of the war. Having survived all of them, it was flown to Canada in May 1945 to help raise victory-loan funds. On 10 May, two days after VE Day, while making a low pass over Calgary airport it struck the control-tower mast and crashed, killing its pilot, Flight Lieutenant Maurice Briggs, and navigator, Flying Officer John Baker.
