Notes
A Bristol Blenheim IV of No. 105 Squadron, coded GB-D, in which Wing Commander Hughie Edwards led a daylight low-level attack on the heavily defended docks at Bremen — ‘Operation Wreckage’ — on 4 July 1941. Pressing in at rooftop height through balloon cables and a storm of flak, Edwards took the formation over the target and home again, though his own aircraft was hit more than twenty times. For his leadership he was awarded the Victoria Cross; he survived the war and rose to air vice-marshal.
