Albemarle V V1817 of No. 297 Squadron, on a special-operations supply drop to Nogent-le-Rotrou, was hit in one engine by flak south-east of Falaise on the night of 28/29 May 1944. The pilot had the cargo released but, losing height, the crew baled out shortly after midnight; the aircraft crashed and burned near Vignats at about 00:30. The pilot was killed; two of the crew evaded and two were taken prisoner. It had taken off from Tarrant Rushton, Dorset, at 23:40 on 28 May.
