Notes
A No. 44 (Rhodesia) Squadron Lancaster, coded KM-A, flown by Flying Officer ‘Ginger’ Garwell on the low-level daylight raid against the MAN U-boat diesel works at Augsburg — Operation Margin — on 17 April 1942. One of only two of the squadron’s six aircraft to reach the target, it bombed successfully but was set alight by flak and crash-landed nearby; Garwell and several of his crew survived.
