No. 6 Group — RCAF

Bomber Command

No. 6 Group was the Royal Canadian Air Force bomber group, formed on 1 January 1943 and the only national group within RAF Bomber Command. Its stations lay in the Vale of York in County Durham and Yorkshire, and it was funded by the Canadian government, flying first the Handley Page Halifax and later the Canadian-built Avro Lancaster X alongside British marks. Though its early operations were costly, by 1944–45 the group had become one of the most effective in Bomber Command.
