Biography
Stanley Logan Duncan was a Flying Officer in the Royal New Zealand Air Force, service number 415297. CWGC records his death on 30 August 1943, aged 25, and his commemoration on the Bourail Memorial. The New Zealand Gazette records him among airmen mentioned in despatches.
The Auckland Museum RNZAF biography transcription gives the main life outline. It records Duncan as the son of Mr and Mrs W. Duncan of Avondale, Auckland, born at Auckland on 10 September 1917 and educated at Seddon Memorial Technical College. The transcription states that he trained at No. 4 Fighter Operational Training Unit, Ohakea, on Kittyhawks and was promoted to Flying Officer with effect from May. It records his death during routine night-flying exercises, when he crashed while attempting to land at Ohakea. Those details are included because the page is tied to service number 415297 and the same full name. These records tie the same name to the same service number, award trail and casualty date, reducing the risk of confusing him with another airman of similar name.
