History

No. 12 Operational Training Unit formed at RAF Benson in April 1940 and soon settled at RAF Chipping Warden in Northamptonshire, training Vickers Wellington crews within No. 6 (later No. 92) Group. It used satellite airfields including Edgehill and Gaydon. The unit despatched aircraft on the ‘Thousand Bomber’ raids of 1942 and continued training operational crews for Bomber Command until it disbanded in June 1945.
