History
No. 267 Squadron RAF was formed in the Middle East in 1940 as a transport unit. It flew communications, supply and casualty-evacuation work across a theatre where distance and poor surface routes made air transport vital. The squadron used aircraft such as the Lodestar and Dakota, supporting Allied forces in North Africa, the Mediterranean and later the Balkans. Transport squadrons rarely attracted the attention given to fighters and bombers, but No. 267’s work moved people, mail, equipment and urgent loads across a wide operational area. Its wartime service illustrates the RAF’s growing dependence on organised air transport.
