About

RAF Skipton-on-Swale opened in North Yorkshire in 1942 as a Bomber Command station in No. 6 (Royal Canadian Air Force) Group. It was home to the Canadian Nos. 424 and 433 Squadrons, which flew Vickers Wellingtons, Handley Page Halifaxes and finally Avro Lancasters on the offensive against Germany, losing many aircraft in the process. The station closed after the war and the land has returned to farming.
