RAF Stapleford Tawney

RAF Stapleford Tawney was a grass airfield in the Essex countryside, used in the Battle of Britain as a fighter satellite of North Weald. The Hawker Hurricanes of Nos. 151 and 46 Squadrons flew from it against the Luftwaffe, and later a special-duties flight used the field to fly Westland Lysanders and Armstrong Whitworth Whitleys on clandestine work for the Special Operations Executive. It returned to civil flying after the war and is now Stapleford Aerodrome, a busy flying school.
