Notes
A Vickers Wellington of No. 9 Squadron, lost on the very first day of Bomber Command operations in the Second World War. On 4 September 1939 it was one of six of the squadron’s Wellingtons sent against German warships off Brunsbüttel; flown by Sergeant John Turner, it failed to return — among the first RAF bombers lost in action in the war. The crew were killed.
