No. 11 Group
Fighter Command
No. 11 Group held the front line of Fighter Command, defending London and south-east England. Under Air Vice-Marshal Keith Park it bore the brunt of the Battle of Britain in 1940, its sector stations — Biggin Hill, Kenley, Hornchurch, North Weald, Tangmere — meeting the main weight of the Luftwaffe’s attacks day after day. It remained the RAF’s principal fighter group through the offensive sweeps over France that followed.
