No. 222 Group — General Reconnaissance
Coastal Command
No. 222 (General Reconnaissance) Group was the maritime group based in Ceylon, controlling the operational squadrons that guarded the Indian Ocean. Its long-range Catalinas and Liberators flew anti-submarine and convoy-protection patrols and reconnaissance, and mounted bombing and mine-laying sorties reaching as far as Sumatra.
