No. 295 Squadron

Command
Airborne Forces / Glider

History

No. 295 Squadron formed at Netheravon in August 1942 for airborne forces work, beginning with Whitleys and later using Halifaxes, Albemarles and Stirlings. Before the invasion of Normandy it trained for troop-carrying, supply and glider-towing duties, and on D-Day its aircraft helped put the first airborne troops into France while others towed gliders. The squadron also supported Arnhem, supply operations to occupied Europe, the Rhine crossing and post-war transport to Norway before disbanding in 1946.
