History
No. 252 Squadron RAF was re-formed during the Second World War as a Coastal Command fighter and strike unit. Equipped with Bristol Beaufighters, it moved from home defence and convoy-protection work into the Mediterranean theatre, where the Beaufighter’s range and heavy armament made it valuable against enemy shipping and coastal targets. The squadron operated across North Africa and the central Mediterranean, later continuing anti-shipping and strike work as Allied air power pushed into Italy and the Aegean. Its wartime role was typical of the Beaufighter units that linked fighter, reconnaissance and maritime attack duties in Coastal Command.
