History

No. 258 Squadron RAF was re-formed in November 1940 as a fighter squadron and initially flew Hurricanes in Britain. It later moved to the Far East, where it served in the defence of India and then in the Burma campaign. The squadron converted to Thunderbolts for fighter-bomber operations, giving it the range and firepower needed for attacks over jungle and mountain terrain. No. 258’s wartime record spans the home fighter force and the long air campaign against Japan, ending as one of the RAF units supporting Allied land operations in South-East Asia.
