History
No. 342 Squadron, the Free French Groupe de Bombardement Lorraine, formed at West Raynham in April 1943 from French personnel transferred from the Middle East. It flew Douglas Boston light bombers with No. 2 Group, attacking airfields, transport targets and military installations in occupied Europe. The squadron supported the Normandy campaign, later moved to France, and continued daylight bomber operations with Second Tactical Air Force until it passed back to French control after the war.
