History

No. 410 (Cougar) Squadron was a Royal Canadian Air Force night-fighter squadron. It flew Boulton Paul Defiants and Bristol Beaufighters before standardising on the de Havilland Mosquito, defending Britain and then ranging over occupied Europe as an intruder and bomber-support squadron. Among its pilots was Flight Lieutenant Martin Cybulski, who survived an exploding Dornier Do 217 over the Netherlands in 1943.

The enemy aircraft exploded with such force that the Mosquito was enveloped by burning fuel and badly scored. Debris also damaged the port engine, which had to be shut down (note the feathered propeller).
