History
No. 356 Squadron formed at Salbani in January 1944 as a Liberator heavy bomber squadron in Air Command South-East Asia. After training during the first half of 1944, it began meteorological and bombing operations against Japanese targets in Burma, Sumatra and Malaya, and also laid mines. In August 1945 aircraft from the squadron took part in one of the final RAF bombing operations of the war, after which the unit briefly served as a transport squadron before disbanding in November 1945.
