History
No. 110 (Hyderabad) Squadron RAF holds the distinction of having participated in the very first RAF bombing raid of the Second World War, when on 4 September 1939 it led an attack alongside No. 107 Squadron against German naval vessels at Wilhelmshaven. Based at Wattisham throughout its UK service, the squadron flew Bristol Blenheim IVs with No. 2 Group, conducting daylight anti-shipping strikes, attacks on German invasion barges, and raids on airfields and industrial targets across occupied Europe. A detachment operated briefly from Malta in July 1941 before the whole squadron transferred to India in March 1942, taking its Blenheims with it. In the Far East the unit re-equipped with Vultee Vengeance dive-bombers for operations in support of the Burma campaign, before converting to de Havilland Mosquito FB.VIs in late 1944. Mosquito operations against Japanese targets in Burma commenced on 31 March 1945 and continued until the end of hostilities, after which the squadron moved to Singapore and remained active until disbanding in April 1946.
